BMU ACHIEVES FULL ACCREDITATION FOR MBBS AND HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION PROGRAMMES, REINFORCING THE GLOBAL ACADEMIC VISION OF THE PERFORMING VICE CHANCELLOR, PROF. DIMIE OGOINA (TIME 100 HONOREE)
The Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) proudly announces the successful full accreditation of
its Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme, alongside its Health Administration
programme. This accreditation marks a defining moment in the ASPIRE Agenda’s pursuit of
academic excellence, quality assurance, and global competitiveness in medical and health
sciences education.
The accreditation, granted by the National Universities Commission on the 7
th of April 2026
following a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process, confirms that both programmes
meet and exceed the prescribed national standards in curriculum delivery, faculty strength,
infrastructure, clinical training, and institutional governance and will run for a period of 5 years.
The MBBS programme, as the flagship of the University, has demonstrated outstanding
compliance with critical benchmarks required for the training of medical professionals. In the
same vein, the Health Administration programme, was commended for its strategic importance
in producing skilled professionals equipped to manage and strengthen modern healthcare
systems.
Reacting to this milestone, Professor Dimie Ogoina, Vice-Chancellor expressed profound joy and
excitement over the development, describing it as a validation of the University’s vision,
resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The Vice-Chancellor further commended the collective efforts of staff, students, Council, and all
stakeholders whose dedication and support made this achievement possible.
He said “this is not just an accreditation, it is the result of bold determination, keeping the
promise I made during my inauguration : “In two years I will transform the Bayelsa
Medical University”
