BMU HOSTS VERIFICATION TEAM FROM THE RADIOGRAPHERS REGISTRATION BOARD OF NIGERIA FOR RESOURCE VERIFICATION EXERCISE FOR RADIOGRAPHY AND RADIATION SCIENCE PROGRAMME
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) hosted a four-member verification team from the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) for the resource verification exercise of the university's Radiography and Radiation Science Programme.
The exercise formed a critical part of the university's commitment to academic excellence and quality healthcare education, focusing on the assessment of facilities, personnel, learning resources, and clinical training environments available for the training of future radiographers who are in very high demand both in the state and globally.
The Vice Chancellor received the team and reaffirmed the university's commitment to the ASPIRE Agenda. He highlighted several strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening medical education, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and other technological innovations into teaching and learning.
Professor Ogoina noted that the establishment of the Department of Radiography and Radiation Science in 2023 reflects the university's dedication to expanding opportunities for healthcare education and producing globally competitive professionals.

Speaking, the Team Lead, Professor Kenneth Kalu Agwu, expressed appreciation for the Vice Chancellor’s remarks and emphasized that the Board’s mission is to promote and sustain high standards in radiography education across Nigeria.
"Our exercise is not a witchhunt aimed at pulling down an institution but to continue to raise the standard of radiographers in the country by ensuring the quality of their education remains high,” he stated.
The team also acknowledged the significant role the programme could play in strengthening healthcare delivery at the state, regional, and national levels through the production of highly skilled radiography professionals.
Then the verification team commenced an extensive assessment of the university's facilities, comprising BMU Yenagoa Campus Library materials and the university's Virtual Reality Laboratory.
The team toured the university's Sampou Campus, visiting the Department of Radiography and Radiation Science.
As part of the accreditation exercise, the team also visited the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, one of the university's major clinical training centres.
The verification team met with the Chief Medical Director of NDUTH, Professor Johnbull Jumbo, alongside principal officers of the hospital and the Radiology Department.
The team inspected the hospital’s radiology facilities and confirmed that practising radiographers within the institution possessed up-to-date professional licences. They commended the positive impact experienced professionals could have on students’ clinical development.
