Bayelsa Government Presents Two Coaster Buses to BMU – August 11, 2026
The State Government has fulfilled its promise to the Bayelsa Medical University, BMU, with the presentation of two coaster buses to the institution’s management.
Presenting the vehicle documents to the Vice Chancellor of BMU, Prof. Dimie Ogoina, at Government House, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, said the procurement was in response to the pressing needs of the specialised tertiary institution.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Douye Diri, Prof. Ayawei urged the university management to make judicious use of the buses, noting that they would ease the movement of staff and students between the main campus in Yenagoa and the Sampou campuses.
"We congratulate you on behalf of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri. These buses are meant to improve logistics and support academic activities," he said.

Receiving the documents on behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff and students of BMU, Prof. Ogoina expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, and the state government for fulfilling the promise.
The VC recalled that the Governor had earlier pledged support for the university, which trains medical professionals, including surgeons, for hospitals within and outside the state.
"As an institution with two campuses, these vehicles will significantly enhance movement, improve staff and student welfare, and promote academic activities at BMU," Prof. Ogoina said.
He further assured the state government that the university would ensure optimal use and proper maintenance of the buses.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, congratulated BMU on the successful allocation of the buses. He thanked Governor Diri for keeping his word to the university community.
The presentation was witnessed by the Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Irorodamie Komonibo and some members of the BMU management team, such as the SAVC/PRO, Dr Mrs Marie Teibowei, Mr Clarkson Ikati, Transport Officer; and Lucky Imbasi, Protocol/PAVC.
