PROF. DIMIE OGOINA, BMU VICE-CHANCELLOR HAILS BAYELSA STATE GOVERNOR, HIS EXCELLENCY SEN. DOUYE DIRI FOR DRIVING ACCREDITATION ACHIEVEMENT
Prof. Dimie Ogoina (Time 100 Honoree), Vice-Chancellor of Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) has commended the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Bishop of Prosperity, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support, which have culminated in the successful accreditation of key academic programmes in the University.
The Vice Chancellor made the declaration in his office in the 22nd of April, 2026 after receiving the letter from the NUC granting full accreditation of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme and the Healthcare Administration programme.
Speaking on behalf of the University Management, he expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for his strategic role in creating an enabling environment that made the accreditation success possible, noting that this achievement is regarded as a major milestone in the BMU’s developmental trajectory.
The Governor’s commitment to health education and his support to the Bayelsa Medical University has translated into tangible infrastructure, human capital development .
According to Prof. Ogoina, “This accreditation achievement is a direct reflection of purposeful leadership and a government that understands the critical importance of quality education and healthcare delivery. His Excellency the Governor’s consistent financial support has positioned Bayelsa Medical University on a path of global relevance.”
The accreditation outcome affirms that BMU meets the required national benchmarks for training competent medical and health administration professionals.
The Vice-Chancellor further highlighted that the Governor’s interventions in key areas-including the provision of modern teaching facilities, expansion of clinical training platforms, and support for staff development, played a decisive role in securing the accreditation.
The University reassured His Excellency the Governor and the public of its continued commitment to excellence, expansion of academic programmes, and the production of highly skilled, globally competitive graduates who will contribute meaningfully to the healthcare system.
