The management of the university is delighted to announce that the College of Medicine, Bayelsa Medical University, has officially been granted Full Membership of the Consortium of Medical Schools–Africa (COMS-A).
The Certificate of Full Membership was presented to the Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Phillip Dowerife Eyimina, at the MedEd Africa 2026 Conference and COMS-A Annual General Meeting, held from July 5–8, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This recognition places Bayelsa Medical University among a growing network of leading medical schools across Africa committed to advancing medical education, research, innovation, and healthcare leadership through collaboration. As a full member of COMS-A, the University will enjoy expanded opportunities for academic partnerships, collaborative research, faculty and student engagement, and participation in initiatives that strengthen health professions education across the continent
This achievement reflects Bayelsa Medical University’s continued dedication to excellence, innovation, and producing highly skilled healthcare professionals equipped to meet Africa’s healthcare needs.
